ON FILM: An afternoon at Huskisson
Hello again! We finally collected the film photos we sent to the shop today after 10 days and I can’t wait to share them all! They have been scanned so nicely that they’re the sharpest I’ve EVER seen and I’m loving so many of them. But I’ve included some non-film photos in here as well.
A few weeks back during the last long weekend of the year (till Christmas), Leo and I spent a nice sunny afternoon in Huskisson, just less than 2.5 hours away from Canberra. It was a last minute decision to drive there and I’m so glad we did! It was our first “road trip”, if you can consider it that.
It was lovely to spend such a sunny afternoon on a beautiful beach and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. But don’t let the sunshine fool you, in the shade and when the wind blew, it was really cold.
But just before looking for a spot on the beach, we had lunch at The Huskisson which is a hotel right along the beach. It was full of families and groups having lunch while overlooking the view and we joined in with our calamari and fish and chips to share. Leo chose this spot precisely for the fish and chips and they didn’t disappoint!
We reached a nice and peaceful area of the beach just walking about 10 minutes away from the main town. The sand on the beach was so fine between our toes and so soft, it almost felt like we were walking on powder instead.
Leo made me go into the ocean and it was SO cold! I just had to walk right in and dunk myself to get myself used to it. The waves were pretty strong but it was nice to stand around in the crystal clear water, feeling the waves crash onto my legs repeatedly - almost like a massage of sorts.
I was smiling in the photo but I was just masking the pain I felt from the freezing water haha.
Also - not usually one for bright colours but I’m loving this Seafolly set I got in this pretty coral shade! Can’t wait to get back into exercising so I can actually do it justice.
We laid on the beach for a while, watching people go by. We also very much enjoyed watching all the happy doggos running around on the beach - it was so cute.
It got quite cold in the shade soon because the sun got hidden behind the trees we were under and we packed up to head back.
But before heading back up to the main area, we spent quite a while checking out this huge space filled with craters and rockpools.
I loved looking into the shallow pools filled with little corals and shells, although we were on the hunt to see if we could spot something cool in one of them, like an octopus.
We did eventually find a deeper pool that looked like it had some creature hiding in the shadows of the crevices but I couldn’t get a photo of it.
Leo took these 2 shots of me that I really like and he did such an amazing job with the framing while I did a terrible job taking a photo of him. I always give him a hard time because I think he doesn’t take nice photos of me but in all honesty, it’s usually my fault because I can’t help getting super awkward once he tries to take a photo of me.
And the worst part is that he is a sweetheart and always more than willing to be an “insta BF” but I just ruin it by getting awkward. These turned out well because there was no one else around haha.
And after cleaning up and getting an ice cream, we went back to the car to get a slight headstart on our trip back because we didn’t want to deal with heavy traffic when the rest of the people decide to leave.
Leo and I had such a good day together, savouring the long weekend and I definitely want to go back there once it gets warmer, which I guess is now, since Spring is officially here and the weather has been sunnier and hotter during the day. We’ll just have to figure out a weekend when we’re free once we settle in to our new place! And that’s a whole other post. I’ll probably go into more detail about the process and tips because it was AN ORDEAL finding a place to rent.
Till the next post!
